Bob Kandels - Pastor

Church Camp has a way of changing the perspective of a teenager, and camp is where I asked Christ into my heart as a high school senior, in the summer of 1982. It was the start of many life decisions, of which the most recent was to move to Groveland from Paynesville, Minnesota to pastor at Groveland Evangelical Free Church!

Early on, I was encouraged by God and others to attend Greenville College and Bethel Theological Seminary where I obtained degrees in religious studies, psychology, and a Masters in Divinity. I also met and married my lifelong partner and soul mate Kelly, while in college. We have a son John who is in full-time ministry as a Teen Challenge counselor in Minnesota.

We have centered our lives around active ministry since 1996, always planting seeds for Jesus. Fitness and exercise are important to us and our son’s participation in football, basketball and baseball has kept us engaged in his life and those around us. Since I‘ve lived in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” up until now, I’ve enjoyed any sport behind a boat such as water and barefoot skiing and wake boarding. Living near water provided us a way to have “Ministry On The Water” during the Minnesota summers. Winters are also a favorite as we are involved with people as we snow ski, snowboard and play volleyball.

One of my life verses is “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13. I believe we are called and gifted by God through the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. I am looking forward to what God has in store for us in Groveland and the surrounding communities and beyond!
