What Is The Significance Of Easter

As we look forward to the celebration of Easter at the end of March, we might want to ask what does it mean to live in remembrance of Easter? In other words, what is the real meaning of Easter? After all, Jesus’ death and resurrection on the cross 2000 years ago was an actual event, not a myth or a fairy-tale. Jesus was an innocent man, the Son of God who lived a perfect life, but was given the harshest punishment given to criminals. Then, after His death, Jesus’ resurrection a few days later changed everything for all time. What sprang forth from Jesus’ death and resurrection was mankind’s salvation.

There were a few days between the death of Jesus and His resurrection. What was that like for people in the day? For the disciples, it was a short season of doubt and disappointment. For the religious leaders, it was a season of outward confidence combined with inward fear. For the women closest to Jesus, it was a season of hopefulness and confusion. In this day and age, with all that we have going on around us, we can certainly identify with these emotions.

So, what is the true impact of Easter? Because of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, if we believe in Him, our life is forever changed. We live with God’s love and presence as we face the inevitable challenges of life and we live with hope anchored in the truth of a life that is eternal. Jesus reminded His dear friend Martha, about this truth.  “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
(John 11:25-26) NRSV

Any of us can seek to know more about Jesus. If we choose to prayerfully listen, we can find hope that will not disappoint. A relationship with Jesus will guide us through the storms of life into the light of eternity. During this Easter season, I hope you will be curious to find out more about Jesus and the life He lived. One way is to attend worship at one of the area churches. I would like to personally invite you to join us at Groveland Evangelical Free Church. We worship Sundays at 10:00am. You can also talk with a friend who you know is a believer. Take advantage of this Easter by discovering or reconnecting with Jesus, our risen Lord and Savior. You will be blessed!

In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Bob Kandels
